PM ready to talk on FDI issue: S Khursheed
DELHI: In another attempt to convince the opposition on the FDI issue in retail, Union Law minister SalmanKhurshid said that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is ready to have an open dialogue on the issue and appealed the Opposition to let the Parliament function. He made this statement after the Parliament proceedings were disrupted by the opposition on the FDI issue.Quoting Sanjay Singh’s (Congress MP) incident of openly opposing the FDI, he said,” Sanjay Singh was speaking his mind; we should appreciate democracy in our party.”
The Opposition also remained firm on its demand for a rollback on the FDI issue. BJP leader SS Ahluwalia said that the party had not received any word from the government on a possible rollback in the FDI issue. He said,” The resolution submitted for adjournment motion is non-negotiable. The Opposition is interested in running the House, and has given the notices as per the rule book. This clearly shows Government does not want to run the House.”The government is unlikely to agree to an adjournment motion as demanded by the Opposition; however, some policy changes are possible in the FDI issue in retail to protect small retailers.
