Underprivileged & Meritorious Gursikh Students To Be Benefited

Guru Gobind Singh Study Circle and Oberoi Educational Trust today launched “Sardar Harnam Singh Judge Scholarship Scheme” for the underprivileged and the meritorious Gursikh students. Scholarships worth Rupees Three Lakhs shall be given every year. Addressing a press conference here at Chandigarh Press Club the Deputy Chief Secretary- North Region 1 of Guru Gobind Singh Study Circle Ajinder Pal Singh said that the scholarship will be given to the students who are studying in classes 6th to 12th and have scored atleast 60% marks in their previous class and their family income is less than Rs. 1.5 lakhs per annum. He also told that there will also be a written entrance test on 11th October from the book “NaiticVidiya” published by Guru Gobind Singh Study Circle and “Sikh RehaitMaryada” followed by an interview. Selected candidates will get Rs.6000 per year for their school fees, books, etc. He told that the selection criteria would be strictly followed so that the monetary benefits can be given to only deserving students.

While addressing the media Gursimran Singh, Chairman, Oberoi Educational Trust narrated an inspiring story about Harnam Singh Judge who had to discontinue his studies after 7th class as his parents could not afford his education. However, the Headmaster of the school offered him scholarship and persuaded parents to continue his education as he was exceptionally brilliant in studies.Oberoi said later, he was awarded gold medal in class 10th. He completed his MA (Punjabi) and scored 1st position in LLB from Panjab University. He qualified PCS exam and got selected without any approach. He was known for his high order of integrity and punctuality and retired as Districts & Sessions Judge. He was awarded “Baba Farid Award for Honesty” as he served with honesty and dispensed justice without fear or favour.

After getting impressed with the lifestyle of Harnam Singh Judge, Gursimran empowered his vision to reach out to all those deserving children who have it in them to see success and shine but are unable due to mere paucity of funds. Gursimran informed the media persons that his grandfather used to share spiritual thoughts in “GurbaniVichar” programme of All India Radio Jalandhar. Later he got his lectures published in the form of book “TuMeraRakhaSabniThain”. He authored another book “GurbaniMuhavraKosh” published by Sikh Missionary College, Ludhiana. In his entire life he always tried to help the poor and needy and wanted them to stand on their own feet.

Manjeet Singh, Deputy Chief Secretary- North Region 2, Guru Gobind Singh Study Circle told that the selected students will have to undergo 2 hours class every Sunday on moral values, Gurmat education and personality development, so that they become good citizens and the society will feel proud of them.

Gurmeet Singh, Additional State Secretary, Guru Gobind Singh Study Circle and Kamaljeet Singh from Guru Gobind Singh Study Circle, Yamunanagar were also present during the conference.
