Renewing its earlier ban orders the apex sikh body the Shriomani Gurdwara Pharbandhak Committee (SGPC) has again banned the shooting of commericial movies in the Golden temple Complex.
SGPC Additional Secretary cum spokesperson for the institution, Mr. Daljit Singh Bedi said that there was already ban existing on shooting of commercial movies in the Golden Temple but now it has been renewed with certain amendments.
Bedi said that recently it was observed the recent shooting of Bollywood movie starring Aishwarya Bachan had disturbed the religious atmosphere during the shooting as it had also disturbed the peace and spiritual atmosphere here.
Bedi said that now SGPC wouldn’t allow shooting of commercial movies here but certain short documentary with religious contents could be allowed subject to the approval of special committee of SGPC after studying its contents and theme of the movie.
Telling about the need to renew ban orders with certain amendments, Bedi said that recently a short play and Bollywood movies were shot in the premises of the Golden Temple whereupon various people and religious outfits from the society raised objections as it was against the religious tenets the way shooting crew was behaving with the visiting devotees.
It may be mentioned here last month SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar had clarified that the makers of Randeep-Hooda-Aishwarya-Rai starrer ‘Sarbjit’ had no permission to shoot certain scenes of the film at the Golden Temple here and that an inquiry was ordered into how the Bollywood crew got in.
Nevertheless to say that in the last few years, a number of Hindi and Punjabi feature films were shot in the premises of shrine, ,including Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Rab Ne Bana Di Jori’, Aamir Khan’s ‘Rang De Basanti’ and of late ‘Sarabjit’.
A chaotic atmosphere was witnessed during the shooting of ‘Sarbjit’, a biopic on Indian prisoner Sarbjit Singh, who was murdered in a Pakistani prison. Thereafter
SGPC had to stop the shooting for few hours, later on it was allowed with certain conditions.
