Chandigarh July 20 :
Capt Amarinder Singh president of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee said that former Amritsar MP Navjot Singh Sidhu was welcome to join the Congress, if he desired to do so. This comes after Navjot Sidhu resigned from the Rajya Sabha today.
“Congress party’s doors are open for everyone,” said the Captain but also made it clear that there was no communication between him and Sidhu on this so far.
The PCC president said, that Sidhu had a Congress background as his father late Bhagwant Singh Sidhu had remained an office bearer of the District Congress Committee, Patiala.Capt said that later he served as the Advocate General of Punjab during Darbara Singh's regime.
When asked Amarinder Singh wheather he met Sidhu recently, the Captain said, “we are both from Patiala and we are both Sidhus”. He said he had seen him playing and practicing cricket when he was young. "I don't remember having met him for a long time now", he added.
When asked if the Congress party would invite Sidhu join the party, the PCC president said, “he is yet to resign from the BJP”.
Sidhu has kept himself away from the media while his wife did all the talking, saying his resignation from the Rajya Sabha on Monday meant he has also quit the BJP and the only option for them now was to join the AAP.Moreso AAP has also extended invitation to Sidhu to join the party post his decision to resign from the Rajya Sabha.
