HC division bench issued a notice

Chandigarh 12 May: Seeking abolition of Revenue Courts in Punjab an ex-army man from Patiala has submitted a public interest litigation in the Punjab and Haryana high court saying that revenue courts in Punjab do not deal with cases wherein the land under question is also the subject of litigation in a civil court, as it would lead to multiple proceedings in the same matter. In his application former Subedar Lakhwinder Singh stated that since the revenue department remained under a shadow of doubt, revenue courts should be abolished in public interest. He further argued that civil courts could do the same task easily, the HC division bench comprising acting chief justice MM Kumar and justice Alok Singh issued a notice of motion to Punjab government asking for reply by July 24.
Revenue courts are headed by the SDM, DC and the financial commissioner at different levels, and deal with land-related cases.
